Shawn Gooding Obituary – A fatal incident occurred in the East Village on Friday night when an MTA bus collided with and fatally injured a man. Following a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision, officers promptly arrived at the intersection of Avenue D and East 10th Street at around 10:30 p.m.
According to the NYPD, the victim, identified as 45-year-old Shawn Gooding, was situated at the southwest corner of the intersection when he accidentally tripped and fell onto the roadway near the designated crosswalk. At that moment, an MTA bus traveling along East 10th Street had the right of way and proceeded to execute a right turn onto Avenue D, inadvertently striking Gooding with its rear end.
Regrettably, the bus did not remain at the scene of the accident. Upon the arrival of the officers, they discovered Gooding lying on the road with severe injuries. Emergency responders swiftly transported him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.
The NYPD has successfully located the bus involved in the incident and is currently processing it as part of their investigation. Authorities believe that the 59-year-old bus driver was unaware of the collision with the pedestrian.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing.
