Stephen Matyas, Megan Justine Brannon, Death – Officials say two people were killed in a five-motorcycle crash in Rockingham County. On Friday, Sept. 1, around 11 a.m., the State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash on U.S. Route 220 near Williams Road in Rockingham County. Stephen Matyas, 33, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Megan Justine Brannon, 29, of Seminole, Florida, died on the scene.
Officials say three other motorcyclists received serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. They were all treated and released.
Investigators located the suspected vehicle and the driver Friday evening. Investigators are set to meet with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office later in the week regarding charges.
U.S. 220 near Williams Road was initially closed in all directions. Shortly after the collision occurred, crews were able to reopen U.S. 220 southbound; however, northbound lanes remained closed for about four hours during the investigation.
