Terrence Burton Death – Last week, an unfortunate incident occurred at a Vinton apartment complex, resulting in the death of Aman and the stabbing of a woman. The Vinton police department received a report of a disturbance in the 800 block of East Washington Avenue at 4:21 p.m. on April 8. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound and a woman with a stab wound.
The man was found “laying in the breezeway” of the apartment complex, as stated in search warrant affidavits filed in Roanoke County Circuit Court. Inside one of the apartments, the woman was found with a knife wound to her back. Both individuals were promptly transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, the man, identified as 58-year-old Terrence Burton, succumbed to his injuries. The woman, identified as 43-year-old Tara Dunbar, was treated and later released. The police department assured the public that this incident was isolated and that there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
According to the affidavits, Dunbar had entered the apartment accompanied by another man named Shane Stager. Burton was already present inside. A verbal altercation ensued, during which pepper spray was deployed on Dunbar and Burton. Subsequently, Burton stabbed Dunbar in the back with a knife, and a confrontation between Burton and Stager resulted in a gunshot.
During the investigation, the police seized several items from the scene, including pepper spray, a cellphone, swabs with red stains, a knife from the bedroom floor, shell casings, a spent round, the front of a drawer, pants, and a belt, as detailed in the executed search warrant documents.
While speaking with Burton at the scene, he claimed that “Shane shot me!” Stager fled the scene in a maroon 2021 Nissan Sentra, which was later located in the southeast quadrant of Roanoke. The Vinton police seized the vehicle as part of their investigation.
