Tyler Stansberry Obituary, Death – Fort Dodge police have identified the armed individual who was shot and killed by an officer on Saturday as 24-year-old Tyler Stansberry. Stansberry was reportedly displaying erratic behavior and harming a dog at a residence on 4th Avenue South in the morning, prompting multiple calls to the authorities.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that Stansberry had an active warrant for violating probation related to a domestic abuse charge. Inside the residence, Stansberry was found holding two knives and allegedly charged at the officers, resulting in one officer firing the fatal shot. The incident triggered the involvement of external agencies, including the DCI.
The officers involved have been placed on “Critical Incident leave” as the DCI conducts its investigation. The names of the officers have not been disclosed by DCI protocol. The Fort Dodge Police Department has expressed full cooperation with the DCI’s investigation and emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability in all its actions, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and its impact on the community.
