Vjatselav Belts Obituary – The drowning incident that took place near Venice Beach on Sunday is currently under investigation by the Venice Police Department. Upon receiving the distress call, first responders promptly arrived at the scene located near 101 Esplanade S. at 6:50 p.m. Rescuers identified the distressed swimmer approximately 125 yards south of the lifeguard stand. An officer bravely entered the Gulf with a rescue buoy and successfully reached the 66-year-old man, who was found face down and unresponsive.
Shortly after, the Venice Fire Rescue boat arrived and the individual was carefully transferred onto the boat. CPR was immediately initiated in an effort to save his life. Lifesaving measures were diligently carried out during the transportation both on water and land, until the victim was finally taken to SMH Venice.
Regrettably, despite the extensive efforts made, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. In order to thoroughly investigate this tragic incident, a VPD detective will collaborate with the District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office.
It is important to note that this incident occurred outside the designated hours of beach lifeguards. The deceased has been identified as Vjatselav Belts, a 66-year-old resident of Hesperia, California, who has family residing in Missouri and Estonia.
