William Carter Obituary – Katherine Emel, a 29-year-old resident of Plymouth Meeting, has turned herself in and is now facing charges related to the murder and robbery of William Carter, a Norristown man who was killed in January. The charges against Emel include second-degree murder, robbery, and conspiracy. She is currently being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. Three other individuals connected to Carter’s death were arrested in New York on January 31.
Damon Brantley Jr., 18, Daquan Allen, 29, and Jerry Butler, 28, have been extradited to Montgomery County and were arraigned without bail. Video surveillance footage revealed that the three men robbed Carter before fleeing in a gray Toyota RAV4. It was determined that Brantley was the shooter who fatally shot Carter in the head. Detectives discovered that the car Carter was driving belonged to Emel, who had placed a GPS tracking device in the vehicle. Cell phone records also indicated that Emel had multiple conversations with Allen before the robbery and shooting, during which she informed him that Carter had won $3,000 from gambling and disclosed his whereabouts for the night.
Surveillance footage from a business on North Broad Street captured Emel and Allen meeting, with Allen giving Emel $700. According to District Attorney Kevin R. Steele, assisting in a dangerous felony like robbery and subsequently resulting in murder makes one legally responsible for the murder as well. Emel is charged with second-degree murder, which refers to a homicide that occurs during the commission of a felony. A preliminary hearing for all four individuals involved is scheduled for February 16 at 10 a.m., with Assistant District Attorneys Meghan Carney and Jediah Grobstein handling the case.
