William J. Ward Death – Kelsi Ann Carmack, aged 24, is facing charges for failing to stop at an accident resulting in a known death, according to court documents. The victim, identified as William J. Ward from Leawood, Kansas, was hit by Carmack at the University of Kansas Cancer Center Westwood Campus parking garage at approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday. Carmack allegedly did not stay at the scene but proceeded to enter the facility to start her work. She was apprehended while on duty.
The university acknowledged that the incident involved one of its employees and expressed deep regret over the situation. Hospital spokesperson Jill Chadwick conveyed this sentiment in a news release obtained by the Kansas City Star. Carmack’s father, speaking to WDAF-TV, described the incident as an accident. He stressed that his daughter did not intend to cause harm and was unaware of the collision.
In a message to the victim’s family, Carmack’s father apologized and asked for forgiveness on behalf of his daughter, highlighting her dedication to nursing. Although Carmack’s father referred to her as a nurse, she is officially recognized as a certified medication aide and a certified nursing assistant, according to WDAF-TV.
Currently released on $7,500 bail from the Johnson County Detention Center, Carmack is being represented by a public defender. Her next court appearance is set for April 10.
