Yazmyn Stewart Obituary – A pursuit that commenced with an endeavor to execute a warrant in Delaware culminated in a fatal shooting involving the police in Chester, Pennsylvania. Law enforcement officials attempted to serve a warrant to a woman residing on the 300 block of North Madison Street in Wilmington on Tuesday morning. However, she managed to escape in a vehicle.
The woman, identified as 22-year-old Yazmyn Stewart, was confirmed by her family on Tuesday night. As per authorities, the suspect was approached due to her alleged involvement in a shooting incident that occurred on December 2, 2023, on the 500 block of West 8th Street.
Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky stated, “The female was wanted, and there was an active warrant, and that’s why she fled from police.” Stewart led the police on a pursuit to the 2100 block of Market Street in Chichester, Pa., where she crashed her car and purportedly fired shots at the officers.
During the exchange, two Delaware state troopers also discharged their firearms, although it remains unclear if Stewart was hit. John Rapp, an eyewitness to the incident, was driving along the highway in Chichester at the time and reported witnessing the police opening fire.
“It was probably two or three magazines that got emptied, and then a black Tahoe with the window blown out came back down the ramp, passed the police officers,” recalled Rapp.
Subsequently, the woman carjacked a dark-colored SUV and drove to Chester, where she collided with a building. From there, Stewart entered a home at 12th and Kerlin streets by climbing through a window. Justin Burton, who received a distressing call from his girlfriend inside the house, shared his account with Action News.
“She kept calling me, so I finally just answered and she was like, ‘Justin, someone broke into the house, someone broke into the house,'” Burton said.
Burton’s girlfriend informed him that the suspect appeared to be injured. “‘She was bleeding, she must’ve gotten shot,'” Burton relayed the conversation. “And it’s like, ‘Be quiet, don’t worry about it. Just chill, just be cool.'”
He overheard his girlfriend saying, ”My daughter is upstairs and she’s crying. You go.”
