Youssoupha Diagne Obituary – The individual who lost their life in the incident where their car plunged into a river in Darien last week has been identified by the police. The investigation revealed that a Nissan Rogue veered from the eastbound lane to the westbound lane of Tokeneke Road on Friday at approximately midnight, ultimately veering off the road near the Rowayton town line. Subsequently, the vehicle collided with fencing and plunged into the Five Mile River, where it meets the Long Island Sound.
Darien officers promptly arrived at the scene and discovered the vehicle partially submerged in the near-freezing water. The police report states that a 21-year-old woman was found floating face down in the water and was successfully rescued. Emergency crews immediately initiated resuscitation efforts, and she is currently in stable condition, recuperating at the hospital.
Firefighters equipped with cold water gear bravely entered the water to search for any potential additional victims. Eventually, fire officials located Youssoupha Diagne, a 21-year-old resident of Bridgeport, inside the submerged vehicle. Tragically, Diagne was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Two officers who courageously entered the river are presently recovering from injuries that are not life-threatening.
The incident remains an ongoing investigation as authorities continue to gather information.
