Zaquan George, Margaret “Maggie” Amaris Erdie Death – The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department has provided an update regarding the tragic accident that occurred on Interstate 79 last Wednesday. The identities of the two individuals who lost their lives in the incident have been released as Zaquan Christopher George, 21, and Margaret “Maggie” Amaris Erdie, 19, both residents of Morgantown. Sheriff Perry Palmer explained that the department had to wait for confirmation from the state medical examiner before disclosing the victims’ names.
Initially, there was no new information available on Thursday morning, but later in the day, the department made the identities of the victims public. The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident, which involved three vehicles and resulted in the closure of I-79 traffic in both directions for approximately five hours.
Alongside the fatalities, two other individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Erdie, a graduate of Morgantown High School in 2023, will be remembered by her loved ones for her compassion, maturity beyond her years, affection for her nieces, and unwavering support for others. George, a graduate of West Fairmont Senior High School in 2021, was an active member of the track and cross-country teams.
