Alanah Phillips, Zayn Phillips Obituary – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two siblings, Alanah Phillips, 8, and Zayn Phillips, 4, who tragically lost their lives in the crash at Swan Boat Club in Berlin Township. The incident occurred when a 66-year-old woman crashed into a building where a children’s birthday party was taking place. In addition to the two fatalities, nine other individuals were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. Their conditions are as follows:
– A 31-year-old woman remains in critical condition
– An 11-year-old boy remains in critical condition
– An 18-year-old woman is in serious condition
– A 16-year-old girl is in serious condition
– A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition
– A 70-year-old woman sustained minor injuries
– A 66-year-old woman sustained minor injuries
– A 62-year-old woman sustained minor injuries
– A 57-year-old woman sustained minor injuries
– A 42-year-old man also suffered minor injuries but sought treatment independently.
The crash occurred at approximately 3 p.m. at the Swan Boat Club on Brancheau Road in Berlin Township. The vehicle struck the north wall of the structure and came to a stop about 25 feet inside. The sheriff’s office described the scene as ‘extremely chaotic’ with heightened emotions from those involved and witnesses.
Marshella Chidester, 66, was arrested in connection with the crash and faces charges including two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of operating while intoxicated (OWI) causing death, and four counts of OWI causing serious injury. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Authorities suspect that Chidester may have been at a nearby tavern before the incident and have closed the establishment for investigation purposes. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family with funeral expenses.
