Avyon Titus Thomas Obituary – CMPD responded to a report of shots fired on West Trade Street early Sunday morning. Upon arrival, they discovered Avyon Titus Thomas, a 17-year-old, with a gunshot wound inside a residence. Unfortunately, MEDIC pronounced him dead at the scene. Myers Park High School confirmed on Facebook that Thomas was a student at their school. The school expressed their deep sadness and described Thomas as a loyal friend and a caring individual. They extended their condolences to his mother, grandmother, family, and friends. The incident occurred near Brookshire Freeway, and police were stationed outside the ABODE at Greenway townhomes.
CMPD is treating the death as a homicide and has charged Jamir Easter, 18, with involuntary manslaughter. Easter turned himself into the police. According to Channel 9’s photographer, one person was initially taken into custody but was later released. Neighbors informed reporter Glenn Counts that the home where the shooting occurred is frequently used as a rental property. The significant police presence in the area caught the attention of residents, with crime scene tape surrounding the vicinity and approximately 15 visible police officers, as reported by resident Connor Webb.
