Dimitri Calvert Obituary, Death – The Springdale Police Department (SPD) has recently stated that a man who was shot and killed by officers earlier this week was holding a knife to a bystander’s neck. On March 12, SPD received reports of an armed man causing damage to cars and threatening individuals on Norfolk Avenue in Springdale.
Initially, SPD reported that the individual, identified as 30-year-old Dimitri Calvert, was found with a knife and refused to drop it, leading the police to open fire. Calvert was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“On March 15, SPD stated that during the initial investigation, while reviewing video evidence and statements, it was discovered that just before the shooting, Dimitri Calvert had taken an uninvolved male and held a knife to his throat. It was at this point that Corporal Wright discharged his firearm, striking Calvert,” SPD said.
The officer involved in the incident was identified as Corporal Danny Wright, who has reportedly served with the department for 25 years. Corporal Wright is currently on paid leave until the investigation into the use of deadly force, which is being conducted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, is concluded.
The Springdale Police Department has stated that the complete footage of the incident will be made available once the investigation is finished.
When asked for further details regarding the low-resolution dashcam photos released in the most recent update, SPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Matt Ray stated that he couldn’t provide any additional information.
