Dylan Butler Obituary – Ahmir Jolliff, an 11-year-old sixth grader, tragically lost his life in the Perry school shooting on Thursday, according to the Iowa Department of Public Safety. The department also disclosed that two additional individuals were injured in the incident. The Iowa State Medical Examiner declared Jolliff’s death a homicide on Friday, as he had been shot three times. Authorities revealed that Dylan Butler, a 17-year-old student at Perry High School, initiated the shooting before the start of school using a pump-action shotgun and a small-caliber handgun. Butler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Iowa DPS stated that seven others sustained injuries, an increase of two from previous reports. Among the victims, three are school staff members and four are students. Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger, who was shot multiple times, remains in critical condition as of Friday. In a statement released by the Iowa DPS, it was confirmed that Principal Marburger acted selflessly and placed himself in harm’s way in an apparent attempt to protect his students.
Two of the injured students are still receiving treatment in the hospital, while the rest have been treated and discharged. State investigators have seized a significant amount of digital and social media evidence, which will require time to review. They are also conducting interviews with eyewitnesses and victims. Upon completion of the investigation, the DCI’s investigative report will be handed over to the Dallas County Attorney’s Office to determine any further course of action, if necessary, as stated in the release.
