Florencio Delgado Cordero, Death – A Pueblo man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Monday morning and police are investigating speed and alcohol as possible factors in the crash. The man killed in the wreck was identified Wednesday by the county coroner’s office as 45-year-old Florencio Delgado Cordero. Pueblo Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Frank Ortega told the Chieftain police are still investigating the wreck. The driver had not been formally charged as of Thursday afternoon.
Officers responded that morning to a motor vehicle crash in the 1500 block of Northern Avenue in which a vehicle struck a house and the parties inside became trapped, according to Pueblo PD. After arriving on the scene, officers found four occupants of the vehicle with varying levels of injuries. One party, later identified as Delgado Cordero, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pueblo PD’s investigation revealed that the vehicle’s occupants had attended Fiesta Day at the Colorado State Fair prior to the crash. While driving east on Northern Avenue, the driver lost control and struck a power pole, fence, and large tree, where the vehicle then overturned.
The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office also continues to investigate a separate incident on Aug. 26 in which three people, including 56-year-old Marie Quintana and her 12-year-old grandchild, both of Aurora, as well as 48-year-old Denver resident Jesus Guerrero Lopez, were killed in a crash in Pueblo West.
At the scene, sheriff’s deputies determined that a 2017 Honda CRV had been traveling north on Purcell Boulevard when it was hit head-on by a 2015 BMW 550 that was traveling south but had drifted into the northbound lane of traffic, according to a PCSO news release.
The driver and lone occupant of the BMW, a 32-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. PCSO spokesperson Gayle Perez told the Chieftain Thursday that the sheriff’s office continues to investigate in conjunction with the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
No official charging decision has yet been made.
