The crash occurred at 1:50 a.m. on the westbound freeway at Overland Avenue, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The victim, a 19-year-old man driving a 2016 Toyota, was trapped in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The Tesla was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes and collided head-on with the Toyota, according to the CHP. A third vehicle, a 2020 Infiniti, suffered minor damage from debris on the road, and the 19-year-old driver of that car left the scene. A Sigalert was issued at 2:04 a.m., closing all westbound lanes at Overland, but was lifted at 7:24 a.m.
