JENNIFER JONES DEATH – A school and community is mourning the death of a Bibb County teacher’s aide. Jennifer Chism Jones, 34, died after her car collided with an 18-wheeler early Friday morning. It happened on U.S. Highway 82 near the intersection of County Road 20. Centreville Mayor Mike Oakley said the deadly wreck happened as Jones was on her way to work at Randolph Elementary School.
“Any time you deal with the loss of a loved one, whether it be a faculty member or family member, it’s just the worst thing that anybody can go through,” said Bibb County Schools Superintendent Kevin Cotner. “So we’ve done our best to be there for our faculty, be there for our students, and just trying to help them during this time today.”
Jones’ 10-year-old twin boys were in the back seat of the car. One was taken by helicopter to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. The other was taken to a local hospital. At the time of the crash, Jones was pregnant with a fourth child. Her unborn baby did not survive.
Alabama State Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
