Jonathan Wayne Yancey Death – The sheriff’s office reported that a man was fatally shot at a residence in Rowan County on Thursday afternoon. Upon receiving a call from a resident regarding the shooting, deputies promptly responded to the home on Crystal Lane in Kannapolis. The resident informed them that the alleged shooter, known as “Batman,” had already fled the scene.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of Jonathan Wayne Yancey, aged 33, who had succumbed to a single gunshot wound. Witnesses identified the shooter as Cody Dewayne Helms, aged 36, who was reportedly a friend of the victim. According to witnesses, Helms shot Yancey during an argument between the two.
Helms attempted to flee but was apprehended by a Kannapolis Police officer shortly after the authorities arrived. He has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Rowan County Jail.
