Kadir Dingil Obituary – The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) clashed with Turkish soldiers in the Kurdistan Region, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuries to two others, as announced by the Turkish defense ministry on Saturday. The soldier, Infantry Specialist Sergeant Kadir Dingil, was killed due to “harassing fire” from the PKK. The injured soldiers were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
The exact location and specific details of the clash were not disclosed. Additionally, the Turkish military reported that they had “neutralized” two PKK fighters through an airstrike in the Qandil region. The term “neutralize” is used by Ankara to indicate adversaries who have been captured, wounded, or killed. While PKK-affiliated media has not reported any casualties among their ranks from the attack on Saturday, they did mention that Turkish forces repeatedly targeted various areas in the Kurdistan Region, including the Khakurk region and Amedi district in Duhok province.
They also claimed that two Turkish soldiers were killed in clashes in Khakurk. These incidents occur amidst an escalation of violence between Turkey and the PKK, following the armed group’s killing of 12 soldiers in the Kurdistan Region in late December. In response, Turkey conducted retaliatory strikes on the PKK and its alleged offshoots in Syria.
In April 2022, Turkey initiated Operation Claw-Lock, deploying its army back into northern Duhok province, with the objective of targeting PKK positions in Metina, Zap, Avashin, and Basyan areas. Ankara aims to remove the PKK from the border region and sever its access to Turkey.
