Kelly Green Death – The woman who passed away this week in Henderson, Kentucky, after her Dodge Challenger crashed into oncoming traffic during an alleged street race has been identified as Kelly Green, a 46-year-old resident of Evansville. She succumbed to multiple blunt force trauma at Deaconess Midtown Hospital, as confirmed by Chief Deputy Coroner David Anson from the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal multi-vehicle collision, which resulted in Green’s death and injuries to five others, took place shortly before 8:15 p.m. on Monday in the 100 block of South Green Street, according to the Henderson Police Department.
Upon reaching the scene, the Henderson Fire Department had to extricate individuals from both vehicles involved, as stated in a news release by Sgt. Bill Russell. The investigation revealed that a Dodge Challenger and a Ford Mustang were racing north on South Green Street.
Sgt. Russell informed the Courier & Press that Green was driving the Challenger with one passenger beside her before the alleged street race began.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Mustang abruptly cut in front of Green, causing her Dodge Challenger to veer into oncoming traffic and collide head-on with a Chrysler Sebring.
As of Wednesday, the Henderson Police Department had not disclosed the identities of the other drivers involved or provided updates on their conditions. The driver of the Mustang cooperated with detectives by providing a voluntary statement.
“We will release further information once the investigation progresses,” stated Sgt. Russell.
