Kevin McBride Obituary – The Toronto Police Service announced on January 8th that they have identified William Taylor as the suspect in the murder of Kevin McBride, a 47-year-old man who was stabbed to death in his apartment in Canada over four decades ago. Unfortunately, Taylor passed away in May before he could be identified as a murder suspect. McBride’s lifeless body was discovered on May 17, 1982, just two days after his untimely death. He had made plans to meet friends for dinner but never showed up, prompting his friends to contact the police. Upon investigation, it was revealed that McBride’s vehicle and credit card had been stolen in the days following his murder, although no suspect had been named at the time.
The case remained unsolved until it was reopened in 2016. Through the retesting of DNA evidence, investigators determined that a male profile, unrelated to the deceased, had been present at the crime scene. In 2022, the police department collaborated with Othram, a forensic genetic genealogy lab in The Woodlands, Texas. Othram successfully created a DNA profile from the evidence, leading to the identification of William Taylor as a suspect in the summer of 2023. At the time of the killing, Taylor was 34 years old, and had he been alive, he would have faced charges of first-degree murder.
