Michael Alexander McMinn Death – A 22-year-old man killed in an accidental shooting in Abbeville County, South Carolina, was a teacher and local pastor’s son, according to the school and the church. Capt. Matthew Graham with the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to a home on Keowee Road about a gunshot wound.
Graham said the victim, identified by the coroner as 22-year-old Michael Alexander McMinn, was found in the bedroom with a single gunshot wound. McMinn was airlifted to Greenville Memorial, where he died, according to officials.
Graham said a family member, who is a firefighter in Abbeville County, was showing off a new gun, and a shot was fired that hit McMinn. According to Graham, this is being investigated as an accidental shooting, and no charges have been filed. Whitefield Baptist Church said on Facebook that McGinn, who went by Alex, was the pastor’s son.
“Please keep Mike, Martha, Kinsley, and Logan, as well as all of their family and close friends, in constant prayer,” the Facebook post said. “May the Church intercede on each of their behalf.” Belton Preparatory Academy posted on Facebook that McMinn was a physical education instructor at the school and also the brother of a teacher there.
Classes at the school were canceled Wednesday.
The post said classes will resume Thursday, and counselors will be at the school to help students and staff.
