Nettie Hubbard Obituary, Death – A fatal accident occurred on Saturday night involving a pickup truck and an SUV, resulting in the death of a pedestrian, as confirmed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The pedestrian has been identified as Nettie Hubbard, an 83-year-old resident of Elgin, according to Kershaw County Coroner David West.
The collision took place around 8:50 p.m. in Kershaw County, with Hubbard walking on White Pond Road in the Elgin area. She was struck by a 2013 Ford pickup traveling south on White Pond Road, followed by a 2019 Honda minivan traveling north on the same road. Unfortunately, Hubbard succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The occupants of both vehicles involved in the accident were unharmed, and there were no other reported injuries.
The investigation into the incident, including whether seat belts were worn, is ongoing by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office. According to the state Department of Public Safety, there have been 157 fatalities on South Carolina roads in 2024, with 999 deaths reported last year. In Kershaw County, there has been at least one fatality in a crash this year, with 11 deaths reported in 2023.
