Silvia Lopez Obituary, Death – Silvia Lopez, aged 48, was discovered in the garage of her residence in the Cantabrian municipality of Castro Urdiales on the evening of Wednesday, January 7th. She had sustained stab wounds to her neck and was found bound, gagged, and unclothed in the back of her car.
Both of her adopted sons, who hail from Russia, have been apprehended on suspicion of her murder. The older son, aged 15, is believed to have committed the crime by stabbing his mother with a sharp object, while the younger son, aged 13, allegedly assisted in covering up the incident.
It is suspected that the siblings attempted to flee with the vehicle to dispose of the body, but their escape was thwarted when they crashed into a wall. To conceal the murder, the pair falsely claimed to their grandmother that they had been kidnapped. She promptly alerted the Guardia Civil, who subsequently searched the property. The lifeless body of the mother-of-two was discovered at 9 pm on Wednesday, and the two brothers were apprehended in close proximity at 2.15am the following morning.
Initially, investigators focused their attention on the boys’ father, but he was found to be working a night shift at a metal factory in the Basque Country. The mayor of Castro Urdiales, Susan Herran, stated that the two boys were not known for violent behavior and were excelling academically at their local school. However, there have been indications that the youngsters had been involved in previous incidents in the area. Authorities are currently working to establish a motive for the alleged murder.
Due to his age falling below the threshold of criminal responsibility in Spain, the 13-year-old son will not face charges and has been placed in a center for the protection of minors. The 15-year-old son has been placed in a young offender’s institution for a minimum of six months, with the possibility of an additional three-month extension.
The Cantabria Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office currently has custody of the eldest son and is awaiting a psychological evaluation of his family, psychological state, and educational background, which will inform the measures taken moving forward.
