Sophia Bennett Death, WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ —The Washington Township school community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a teenager in a recent car accident. Sophia Bennett, a 16-year-old sophomore and talented athlete at Washington Township High School, was identified as the victim of the collision. District leadership, including Superintendent Dr. Eric Hibbs and Principal Raymond F. Anderson III, expressed their condolences and highlighted Sophia’s significant contributions to the community.
They described her as more than just a student, emphasizing her vibrant personality, involvement in swimming and softball, and her ability to touch the lives of many with her warmth and kindness. The Washington Township community is in mourning, and Mayor Laurie Burns extended her heartfelt sympathies, urging everyone to come together to support one another and honor Sophia’s memory. In remembrance of Sophia, WTHS students and staff have been encouraged to wear blue on Wednesday.
Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Bennett’s family, which has already raised over $22,000. Washington Township Public Schools have also partnered with Care Solace, offering complimentary and confidential mental health services for those in need.
