Yigit Tokbey Obituary, Death: – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau has identified the motorcyclist who was killed in a collision on Highway 1 south of Orcutt. The man has been identified as 31-year-old Yigit Tokbey from Lompoc, according to Raquel Zick, spokesperson for the SBCSO. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying any vehicles that may have been involved in the crash. The CHP received a call about a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Highway 1 near Graciosa Road at around 9:23 p.m. on Wednesday. At the scene, officers found Tokbey’s motorcycle and several vehicles stopped on the emergency shoulder lane.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it appears that Tokbey veered off the roadway and lost control of his motorcycle. After the initial crash, Tokbey was unable to move and was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The CHP stated that the weather was foggy at the time of the collision, which may have contributed to limited visibility. Witnesses have reported that there may have been additional vehicles that struck the motorcyclist and left the scene. This incident marks the second death near Highway 1 and Highway 135 in recent weeks. The CHP and Caltrans responded to the scene and closed the road for several hours to facilitate the investigation. The CHP is still investigating the incident and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
