Betty V. Wood Obituary – The 79-year-old woman who lost her life in the house fire on Pinecrest Drive has been identified by the police. In an early Tuesday news release, authorities stated that Betty V. Wood and a small dog were discovered deceased inside the residence after the fire was extinguished on Sunday night.
The incident occurred in the northwestern part of town, near the borders of Killingly and Brooklyn, prompting a response from first responders around 6:20 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, fire crews, including the Atwood Hose Fire Company, were met with intense smoke and flames emanating from a single-family home with 1 ½ stories.
The fire was swiftly brought under control by the initial units, who then searched the premises, tragically finding Wood and the canine deceased. The Plainfield Fire Marshal’s Office and the Plainfield Police Department are currently investigating the incident, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Unit.
