Danna Hernandez-Tapia Death – The 9-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in the early Sunday morning accident on I-680 near Concord has now been identified. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the young girl was Danna Hernandez-Tapia, a resident of Oregon. The incident occurred around 5:14 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-680, close to the Highway 242 split near Concord. Sadly, the girl succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a gray Mazda CX-9 was traveling northbound when it veered off the road and crossed the dirt median that separates the two freeways. There were a total of six individuals inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.
It has been determined that at least five of the occupants were family members. The young girl’s mother, 13-year-old sister, and two 17-year-old cousins were among those present in the car. CHP has reported that they have been transported to the hospital and are currently in stable condition.
Regrettably, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene following the crash and remains at large. It is currently unknown whether intoxication played a role in the accident.
