David Macfarlane Obituary, Death – On Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred in the Montana backcountry, resulting in the death of a Utah man. The avalanche took place just north of Lost Trail Ski Area, near the Idaho-Montana state line. A group of five skiers from Utah were present, and unfortunately, one of them was swept away by the avalanche. The remaining members of the group quickly located the victim and provided initial medical assistance while contacting emergency services using a satellite device.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office and the search-and-rescue team promptly responded to the scene. Additionally, Two Bear Air Rescue dispatched a helicopter to airlift the victim. However, despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries before the helicopter could reach him.
The deceased has been identified as David Macfarlane, a 64-year-old resident of Park City. This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the inherent risks associated with backcountry skiing and the importance of preparedness and safety measures.
