Esmerelda Gonzalez, Leon Montoya Death – The Pueblo County coroner identified the two individuals who lost their lives in a vehicle collision on Monday as Esmerelda Gamboa Gonzalez, 20, from Rocky Ford, and Leon Montoya, 18, from Pueblo. The tragic incident took place on April 1 at the U.S. Highway 50 Bypass at Norwood Avenue. The Pueblo Police Department responded to the scene at around 8 a.m. that day. Gonzalez, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Montoya, a passenger in the same vehicle, suffered life-threatening injuries and passed away on Wednesday.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. The Pueblo PD’s traffic and crime scene investigations units are currently looking into the incident, with no arrests made as of Friday afternoon. It has been confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not contributing factors to the crash. This marks the sixth traffic fatality in Pueblo this year.
