Gerceir Osvaldo DeFaria Obituary – A construction worker lost his life in Hanson on Wednesday morning when a single-family house partially collapsed on him, according to officials. The incident occurred at 50 Dwight St. at 11:30 a.m., prompting a response from Hanson police. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a partial foundation collapse on one side of the house, with the worker trapped underneath.
The victim, identified as 51-year-old Gerceir Osvaldo DeFaria, was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations revealed that the homeowner was having the basement waterproofed, and a trench was being dug when the foundation gave way, trapping DeFaria. To retrieve his body, Hanson police and the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team initiated a “recovery mission” that lasted over three hours. The victim’s body was finally removed from the site at approximately 2:49 p.m. The Hanson Police, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are currently investigating the incident.
