Jerel D. McGeachy Jr, Domonique A. McGeachy Death, KANSAS CITY, Mo. —The Kansas City Police Department has announced that the deaths of three individuals, including a 12-year-old, discovered during a welfare check in the Northland area on Monday morning, are now believed to be the result of a murder-suicide. An update on the initial findings of the homicide investigation was provided by the police on Tuesday, regarding a residence in the 8300 block of Northwest 90th Street, situated just north of 152 Highway and west of I-29.
The authorities were summoned to the home at approximately 9:46 a.m. on April 1, 2024. Upon arrival, officers found the body of Jerel D. McGeachy Jr., 12, followed shortly by the bodies of his parents, Domonique A. McGeachy, 38, and Jerel D. McGeachy, 38. Domonique McGeachy and Jerel McGeachy Jr. both displayed fatal gunshot wounds, while Jerel McGeachy’s cause of death was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The circumstances leading to the tragic deaths of the three individuals are currently unknown. The deaths of the mother and son are being treated as homicides and are under investigation. The police have stated that there are no additional suspects being sought at this time. However, it was emphasized that the findings are preliminary and that investigators are still gathering evidence.
The neighborhood consists of relatively new homes, with many still in the construction phase. Residents who spoke with KMBC 9 on Monday expressed shock and disbelief at the incident. “It’s a new neighborhood, with very nice people, and it’s usually very quiet. This is a shock,” said Rick Turner, a resident of the subdivision.
