Katie Chase Death, COLUMBIA, Md – A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Columbia, resulting in the death of a teenager who became trapped in a townhouse fire. Additionally, two other individuals sustained injuries during the incident. The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services promptly responded to the emergency call at around 7:30 p.m. on Shell Flower Lane. Firefighters were able to bring the fire on the second floor under control swiftly.
Regrettably, it was confirmed on Thursday morning that Katie Chase, a 15-year-old student at Wilde Lake High School, had lost her life in the fire. The authorities have determined that the fire was accidental in nature. Two injured individuals were transported to a hospital for medical treatment. In light of this devastating event, the Red Cross has been contacted to provide assistance to the residents of the affected home. The Office of the Fire Marshal and Howard County police are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire, as is standard procedure in cases involving fatalities.
