Peter Spyres Death – The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has identified the pilot who lost his life in a plane crash south of Alturas on Tuesday. Responders were dispatched to County Road 60, around 5-6 miles northwest of Likely, where they found the wreckage. The sole occupant of the plane, 69-year-old Peter Spyres from Arbuckle, was pronounced deceased at the site.
The MCSO reported that the aircraft involved was a single-prop agricultural plane commonly used for dusting or spraying large areas with pesticides or hydroseeding, although it wasn’t carrying any pesticides at the time. The plane belonged to Jones Flying Service based in Biggs, Butte County, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
The exact cause of the crash remains undetermined, prompting the arrival of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on Wednesday for investigation.
