The deceased individual, Richard Reed, 75, from Lakeville, was pronounced dead at the scene of the four-vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, according to a statement from Lakeville Police Chief Matthew Perkins and Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office.
David Delorenzo, 73, also from Lakeville, was taken into custody in relation to the fatal crash. He has been charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence of liquor, operating under the influence of liquor causing serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and speeding, as mentioned in the statement released by the police chief and district attorney’s office.
The crash was reported to the police around 5:30 p.m. on Friday on Main Street in the vicinity of Elliot Farm. Upon arrival, officers discovered a collision involving four vehicles: a Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Camry, Audi S4, and Chevrolet Silverado, according to the statement. Reed, who was a passenger in the Camry, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Camry was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries, as stated in the official statement. The driver of the Audi was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford to receive medical treatment for their injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was treated at the crash site, according to the statement.
Delorenzo, identified as the driver of the Santa Fe, was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Following his release from the hospital, he was charged with criminal offenses, as mentioned in the statement. The Lakeville man is currently being held on $10,000 cash bail throughout the weekend and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at Wareham District Court, according to the statement. The crash is currently under investigation by the Lakeville Police, with assistance from the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, as stated in the official statement.
