Allen Vargas Death – The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a 30-year-old man was fatally shot multiple times at the Hollister Migrant Housing Center on Wednesday night. The incident occurred at approximately 6:56 p.m. after authorities received a call regarding the shooting. Upon arrival, officers immediately administered medical aid, performed CPR, and attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Allen Vargas, a 30-year-old resident of Hollister. According to Sheriff Eric Taylor, Vargas was inside an apartment at the Housing Center when two suspects approached in a car and began shooting through the window, resulting in his death. Fortunately, the three other individuals present in the apartment at the time were unharmed. Sheriff Taylor expressed his belief that the shooting was targeted, citing witness statements and the manner in which the incident unfolded.
It is important to note that Vargas was not a farmworker and had only been staying at the housing center for a few days prior to the shooting. The recent victims of a separate apartment fire on Hollister Line Street, who had been temporarily relocated to the Migrant Housing Center, were not affected by the shooting.
The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the motive behind the shooting and encourages anyone with information to contact them.
