Isabella North Obituary— Authorities from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office have reported that a woman was shot and killed by officers on Thursday afternoon after she allegedly confronted them with a knife. As per the information provided by the sheriff’s office, the woman, identified as Isabella North, 29, approached a passerby in the vicinity of Denton Avenue and Dane Lane at approximately 3:30 p.m.
According to a news release issued by the PCSO, North allegedly asked the passerby for help and requested them to call emergency services. “After conversing with the call takers, the bystander handed the phone to North and informed her that she ‘felt like she was going to kill someone,'” the statement further explained.
Upon the arrival of the officers at the scene and their attempts to communicate with North, she reportedly refused to respond and swiftly brandished a 12-inch-long knife, assuming a combative stance against the officers.
Deputies stated that they continued their efforts to engage with North and deescalate the situation until she allegedly advanced towards them with the knife raised.
“The two deputies then discharged one round each in the direction of North,” stated the PCSO press release. “This entire incident occurred within a span of 30 seconds from the police’s arrival.”
North was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct an investigation into the shooting, and the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with Sheriff’s Office protocol.
