Jonathan McEvers Death – Georgia State Patrol announced on Tuesday that the driver responsible for initiating a police pursuit early Monday morning and subsequently dying in a crash on I-75 was a 16-year-old individual. The teenager has been identified as Jonathan McEvers, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado during the pursuit. According to GSP, the Silverado made contact with a Calhoun Police Department patrol car, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a guardrail.
The pickup truck then overturned and struck a Buick SUV traveling north on Interstate 75. Tragically, McEvers was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The initial crash led to a second collision when two drivers attempted to avoid the wreckage. In this subsequent crash, a 33-year-old man named Michael Stout from Ohio lost his life.
The Calhoun Police Department reported that the incident began with a call regarding a potentially stolen vehicle. When officers from the department arrived at a RaceTrac gas station and tried to stop the vehicle, McEvers, the suspect, allegedly fled from them. The collision occurred when the vehicle swerved into a Calhoun patrol unit, causing the suspect to lose control and come to an uncontrolled stop on the northbound lanes of I-75.
The other driver involved in the initial crash sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted to a local hospital. However, the other driver in the secondary crash had injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
