Sgt. William Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Sanders Obituary – One of the three Americans killed in an attack at a base in northeast Jordan near the Syrian border has been identified as Sgt. William Rivers, a soldier from New Jersey. Alongside him, Spc. Kennedy Sanders and Spc. Breonna Moffett also lost their lives in the incident. The Pentagon stated that a one-way unmanned aerial system (OWUAS) impacted its container housing units. The attack took place at Tower 22, an outpost where approximately 350 U.S. Army and Air Force personnel are deployed. The drone, loaded with explosives, caused numerous injuries as well. Sgt.
Rivers, a 46-year-old father and husband from Willingboro in Burlington County, was described by his wife as a hardworking individual who always cared for his family. The news of his death has left the community in shock. Sgt. Rivers initially joined the Army Reserve in 2011 and served in Iraq in 2018. He was stationed at Fort Moore in Georgia before his deployment. He Sanders and Moffett were assigned to the 718th Engineering Company at Fort Moore, supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. Sgt. Rivers had received several awards and decorations for his service. The governor of New Jersey, Phil Murphy, expressed his deep sadness and ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff statewide.
